In 1847, a fire burned down the courthouse in the main town of Henry County. For a short time, people thought about making Texas the new county seat. This would have made Texas a very important place in the county.
The Story of the Ferry
For many years, a public ferry helped people cross the river. The county paid for this ferry. But on July 22, 1909, the county leaders sold the ferry. A person named Theodore Wagner bought it for $75.00. After that, people had to pay a small fee to use the ferry.
