The Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame is a cool museum in Fort Worth, Texas. It's all about the history of the American West. This special place honors people who have been excellent in rodeo and the western lifestyle in Texas.
The Hall of Fame has displays for over 125 cowboys and cowgirls. Each person has their own area with personal items. The museum is located in a historic building called Barn A. Inside, you can also see:
- The Sterquell Wagon Collection, which has old wagons.
- The John Justin Trail of Fame.
- The Chisholm Trail Exhibit, which tells about a famous cattle trail.
- The Applewhite-Clark Exhibit.
- The Adventures of the Cowboy Trail.
- The Zigrang Horse Bit Collection, showing different types of horse bits.
- Amon G. Carter's old 1933 Cadillac car.
- The Jersey Lilly Old-Tyme Photo Parlour, where you can take fun old-fashioned photos.
The Hall of Fame started in 1997. At first, it only honored great horsemen and women. In 2001, the museum moved to the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. Today, it celebrates people from all parts of rodeo and the western lifestyle.
The building itself is very old and interesting. It was one of the horse and mule barns in the Fort Worth Stockyards. These barns were first built in 1888 and could hold over 3,000 horses and mules! The original wooden barns burned down in a fire on March 14, 1911. A spark from a passing train started the fire. They were rebuilt and finished in March 1912. The new barns were considered the first "fireproof" ones. Many parts of the building, like the bricks, columns, metal doors, and catwalks, are still original. The Hall of Fame is right in the middle of the historic Fort Worth Stockyards area.
