How Texico Got Its Name

The name "Texico" has a cool story behind it! A man named Cashus M. Columbus Theodore Claybourn (who lived from 1860 to 1936) came up with it.

Cashus lived in Texico until 1901, when he moved to Texas. He combined parts of different names to create "Texico":

  • Tex came from Texas, where he moved.
  • The i came from Illinois, his home state.
  • The c came from his own last name, Claybourn.
  • The o came from the Osborns, a family who owned land in the area.

So, the name is a mix of places and people important to Cashus!
