Thalmus Rasulala (born Jack Crowder; November 15, 1939 – October 9, 1991) was an American actor. He had a long career in plays, TV shows, and movies. He was known for his roles in action films from the 1970s. He was also one of the first actors on the TV show One Life to Live. He was on the show from 1968 until 1970.

Thalmus Rasulala, whose birth name was Jack Crowder, was born in Miami, Florida. He went to the University of Redlands. He also took some classes at Shaw University. This is a special university for Black students in Raleigh, North Carolina.

His Acting Journey

Thalmus Rasulala acted in many movies. He also appeared as a guest on many TV shows. He was known for his roles in action movies. These included Sidney Lord Jones in Cool Breeze (1972). He also played Dr. Gordon Thomas in Blacula (1972). Another role was Robert Daniels in Willie Dynamite (1974). He even helped direct a movie called The Slams (1973).

On TV, he played Skeeter Matthews on Sanford and Son. He was Ned in The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. He also played Lt. Jack Neal on One Life to Live. He was Bill Thomas, the father of Raj and Dee, on What's Happening!!. He also played Omoro Kinte, who was Kunta Kinte's father, in Roots. He even appeared on Saturday Night Live with Richard Pryor.

On Stage and Screen

Thalmus Rasulala also acted on Broadway. This is where many famous plays are performed. He used his original name, Jack Crowder, for these roles. He played Cornelius Hackl in the musical Hello, Dolly!. He was a main actor in the show. The cast was all Black, and it starred Pearl Bailey and Cab Calloway. The show opened in 1967. They even made a popular album of the songs from the show.

He appeared on many other TV shows. These included Perry Mason, Mannix, and The Twilight Zone. He was also on All in the Family, The Jeffersons, and Good Times. Later, he appeared on Star Trek: The Next Generation. His other movie roles included Cornbread, Earl and Me (1975). He was also in New Jack City (1991).

His Final Roles

Thalmus Rasulala passed away from leukemia on October 9, 1991. He died in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His last movie role was General Afir in Mom and Dad Save the World. He finished his scenes shortly before he died. The movie was released a year later and was dedicated to him.

Another movie, Judgement, was also released after he passed away. He had completed this movie in 1988.
