Who Built The 1803 House?
The house was built for Jacob Ehrenhardt Jr. His father, Jacob Ehrenhardt Sr., was one of the first people to settle in Emmaus. Emmaus began as a small community for the Moravian Church in 1747.

Features of the Historic Home
The 1803 House has a smaller, one-and-a-half-story section at the back. This part was originally used as a kitchen. The roof of the house is covered with slate, a strong and flat type of rock.
People lived in this house until the 1950s. Later, in the 1980s, the house was carefully fixed up and made to look like it did a long time ago. Today, it is a special museum where visitors can learn about history. A company called Rodale helped pay for some of the restoration work.
