The Avant is a tall building in Buffalo, New York. It has many different uses inside. The building covers a whole city block. It is located between Elmwood Avenue and Delaware Avenue at West Huron.
The Avant building has modern office spaces. It also includes an Embassy Suites hotel. The top three floors have fancy apartments called condominiums. When it was finished in 2009, these apartments were the most expensive in the Buffalo area. The building's makeover was also a huge recycling project. It was the biggest one in Western New York history. The Avant has windows that save energy. It also has underground parking and other cool features.
Building History
This building was first built in 1973. It was known as the Thaddeus J. Dulski Federal Building. It held 50 different government offices. About 1,200 people worked there.
The US General Services Administration owned the building. In the mid-2000s, they decided it would cost too much to fix up. So, they moved out in 2005.
Modern Makeover
In April 2007, two companies bought the building. They were Uniland and Acquest Development. They paid $6.1 million for it. Then, they spent $83 million to renovate it. They turned it into the mixed-use building we see today. This big renovation was completed in 2009.
