History of The Avery Theater
Early Days and Design
The Avery Theater has a cool design called Art Deco. This style was popular in the 1920s and 1930s. It often uses geometric shapes and bright colors. A talented architect named Henry E. Waldron from Minnesota designed the building.
Besides showing movies, the theater was a busy place. It hosted many events for local groups. These events helped bring the community together.
Changes Over Time
In 1970, the inside of the theater changed a lot. All the movie theater parts were removed. The building then became a pharmacy called Erickson's Pharmacy.
Around 2003, Tammy Abbas bought the building. She changed the pharmacy's name to Tammy's Pharmacy.
Becoming a Historic Place
In 2008, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important historical site. It helps protect the building for future generations.
Returning to a Theater
From 2010 to 2013, the building got a big makeover. It was renovated to become a movie theater again. In August 2013, The Avery Theater reopened its doors. It once again started showing movies for everyone to enjoy.
