The Beach at Adventure Landing is a fun water park located in Mason, Ohio. It's about 24 miles (39 km) northeast of Cincinnati. This park covers 35-acre (140,000 m2) of land.

It used to be called The Beach Waterpark. Today, it has many exciting water rides and special areas for kids. You can also play sand volleyball and basketball there. In 2010, Aquatics International Magazine called The Beach the best privately owned water park.

In March 2012, the park announced it would close. This was because it had been losing money for a few years. The economy was not doing well, and not enough people were visiting. But in July 2012, a company from Florida called Adventure Landing LLC decided to lease the park. They planned to reopen it as The Beach at Adventure Landing. The park welcomed visitors again on May 18, 2013.

History of The Beach Water Park

The idea for The Beach started in December 1984. It first opened its doors in 1985. Since then, the Bunnel Hill Developmental Company has owned and run the park.

The Beach usually welcomes about 300,000 visitors each year. For many years, the park hosted "Club Aqua Splash" teen nights. Local DJs would play music on Tuesday nights during the summer.

Why The Beach Closed in 2012

On March 9, 2012, The Beach announced it would not open for the summer season. A park spokesperson, Ralph Vilardo Jr., said it was a tough decision. He explained that they could no longer afford to invest more money into the business.

People who had bought season passes for 2012 were offered discounts. They also got passes to other nearby places, like Kings Island and the Cincinnati Zoo. However, some people were unhappy with these offers. The Ohio Attorney General even got involved because of many complaints.

The Park Reopens as The Beach at Adventure Landing

Adventure Holdings LLC, a company that owns other amusement parks, decided to lease The Beach Waterpark. They planned to change its name to The Beach at Adventure Landing.

On March 6, 2013, the park was officially sold for $3 million. The new owners invested $5 million to fix up the park. They also held a job fair to hire 500 new employees. The park then reopened to the public on May 18, 2013, ready for new adventures!

Exciting Attractions at The Beach

The Beach has many cool rides and attractions. Here are some of them:

  • Riptide Racer: A thrilling four-lane slide where you race your friends on mats.
  • Kamikaze: A tall slide with twists, turns, and even a 360-degree loop!
  • The Cliff: The tallest body slide in the park. It ends with a small tunnel before you splash into the pool.
  • Banzai Blast: Two slides side-by-side, perfect for racing.
  • Maui Wowie: A double inner-tube ride. You'll rush through white-capped water with three gentle drops.
  • Cowabunga Curl: Three body slides that twist and turn around each other.
  • Runaway Rapids: A ride where you float on a tube through rapids, just like a real river.
  • Big Kahuna: This was the first "gravity-driven water coaster" in the Midwest!
  • Hang Ten: A dark, enclosed slide where you ride on a single mat.
  • Kokomo Lazy River: A relaxing 1,200-foot (370 m) river that circles around the park.
  • Pipeline Plunge: A clear, enclosed body slide that drops you into the High Tide pool.
  • Paradise Cove: A warm spa pool where you can relax.
  • Kahuna Beach Wavepool: A huge 750,000-US-gallon (2,800,000 L) wave pool with cool rock formations and waterfalls.
  • High Tide Hoops: Play basketball in the water!
  • Big Creek Beach: This area has a 600-gallon "dump bucket," water cannons, and four slides.
  • Lil' Kahuna Waterworks: A special area for toddlers with misting sprays and fountains.
  • Sand Volleyball Courts: Four courts where you can play volleyball in the sand.
  • Cabana Rentals: You can rent private cabanas for up to eight people. It's a good idea to book ahead!

Holiday Fest (The Beach on Ice)

For many years, The Beach hosted a special winter event called Holiday Fest. It ran from late November to early January. During this time, some water slides became toboggan runs. The wave pool turned into an ice rink! The park was also lit up with beautiful holiday lights. You could even enjoy carriage and pony rides. Later, the event's name changed to "The Beach on Ice." The ice skating rink was quite large, covering 7,500 square feet (700 m2).

However, after 12 years, The Beach stopped hosting "The Beach on Ice" in 2011. This was because not enough people came to the event in 2009 and 2010.
