The Big Toe Radio Show facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Big Toe Radio Show was a fun daily radio program made just for kids! It played seven days a week on BBC 7, a special digital radio station. You could listen in the mornings during breakfast or in the afternoons from 4 to 6 pm. The show was mostly for children aged nine to eleven. It was packed with music, exciting games, and stories read from popular books, like those by Roald Dahl. The show started in December 2002, right when BBC 7 first began broadcasting.

A really cool part of The Big Toe Radio Show was that kids got to help make it! Every day, three children were invited to the special studios at Broadcasting House. They became part of the "Big Toe team" for the day. This meant they could see how a radio show is put together behind the scenes. If they wanted to, they could even join in the live parts of the show. Often, they got to interview special guests like musicians, authors, scientists, and sports stars.

The show also had a smaller version called The Little Toe Radio Show. This one was for younger children, aged four to seven, who were just starting school. It was an hour long and broadcast every day at 7 am and 3 pm. In 2003, the Big Toe Reporters' Club was created. This club let children report on news and events that were important to them, which was often very different from what you'd hear on regular news programs!

From Radio Show to Books

The Big Toe Radio Show finished on March 16, 2007. But don't worry, the fun continued! The show's idea was changed into a new program called Big Toe Books. This new show was also an hour long and played on BBC Radio 7. You could catch it on weekdays at 4 pm and on weekends at 8 am.

Big Toe Books featured a presenter, first Kirsten O'Brien and later Christopher Pizzey. The presenter would introduce a story or give a quick summary of what happened in previous episodes. The very last episode of Big Toe Books was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 Extra on Saturday, April 2, 2011.
