The Bird's Nest is a very old house in Newport, Rhode Island. It is located at 526 Broadway, close to the town of Middletown. This historic house is made of wood and has two and a half stories. It features a classic gable roof and a large chimney in the middle.

The house also has a two-story section at the back. There are a few smaller parts added over time, making the house a bit bigger. A garage from the early 1900s stands behind the main house.

History of The Bird's Nest House

The oldest part of The Bird's Nest was likely built between 1725 and 1750. Over the years, especially in the 1800s, the house was changed quite a bit. These changes gave it a mix of different architectural styles. You can see parts of Federal, Greek Revival, and Gothic Revival designs.

How The Bird's Nest Got Its Name

The house received its special name from Dr. Rowland Hazard. He bought the property in the 1840s. Dr. Hazard used The Bird's Nest as a quiet place to relax during the summer.
