Story of the Film
The movie is about a German Wirehaired Pointer dog named Moreover. He has a very special bond with a boy named Lonnie (Johnny Whitaker).
Moreover's New Home
Lonnie's father, Harvey McNeil, is a famous dog trainer. He thought Moreover was hard to train. The dog loved to eat chicken eggs and biscuits instead of learning to hunt birds. Because of this, Harvey gave Moreover to Willie Dorsey (Godfrey Cambridge). Willie was a gas station worker who wanted a dog.
Lonnie was very sad to lose his pet. So, he and his best friend, Text, came up with a plan. They wanted to get Moreover back from Willie.
A Clever Plan
Willie loved to trade things. Lonnie and Text decided to trick him. Text took some eggs from his family's chicken coop. He gave them to Moreover at Willie's gas station. Willie saw Moreover eating the eggs. He thought the dog was eating his own eggs and got very upset.
Lonnie and Text were happy their plan worked! They quickly offered to trade the dog back. They said they would help Willie carry firewood to his home. Willie agreed to the trade.
Training a Champion
The boys secretly began to train Moreover. They wanted to turn him into a top bird dog. Lonnie's father was not happy about this. But Lonnie and Text decided to enter Moreover in the state championship dog trial anyway.
Moreover did very well in the competition. An event happened that made the boys worry. They thought Lonnie's father might lose his dog training job. This could happen if his dog, SilverBelle, lost to their unexpected entry, Moreover.
