The Bridge to Never Land is an exciting fantasy novel written by Ridley Pearson and Dave Barry. It was published in 2011 by Disney-Hyperion. This book is the fifth story in the popular Peter and the Starcatchers series. However, unlike the other books, this one takes place in the modern day. The main characters are two young American siblings, Aidan and Sarah Cooper, who find themselves on an amazing adventure.
Contents
The Story Begins
One day, Aidan and Sarah Cooper discover a secret part of their dad's big wooden desk. Inside a hidden door, they find an envelope. It holds a very thin, almost see-through piece of paper. On it are strange lines and bits of letters that don't make sense. At the bottom, there's a verse about Peter Pan and a hint about a real hotel in London.
The Cooper family is already planning a trip to Europe. So, while they are in London, Aidan and Sarah decide to find the mysterious hotel. After some clever detective work, they discover where it is. Once inside, they find another important clue!
A Quest for Never Land
The Bridge to Never Land sends Sarah and Aidan on an incredible quest. They must solve many puzzles. These puzzles slowly make them believe that Peter Pan is real, not just a story. They learn what happened to the rest of the magical "starstuff." This is the same starstuff that Molly and Peter worked hard to protect many years ago.
But that's just the start! They also find out that a long time ago, Molly and the other Starcatchers went on a final, big mission. Their goal was to find a way to keep Never Land safe. Never Land is a secret island with magical creatures and a precious supply of starstuff. The Starcatchers wanted to protect it from the outside world, which was getting too close.
Meet the Characters
This adventure is full of interesting characters, both new and familiar!
Sarah Cooper
Sarah is a seventeen-year-old girl who loves adventure. She is determined to stop the evil Ombra from getting the starstuff. Sarah can be quite sarcastic, but she has a very useful skill: she has a black belt in karate!
Aidan Cooper
Aidan is Sarah's fifteen-year-old brother. He often falls in love and tries to stay out of trouble. Aidan likes to think about what might happen before he acts. But his older sister, Sarah, often leads him into exciting (and sometimes dangerous) situations. Even though she nearly gets him into trouble many times, he still cares for her.
J.D. Aster
J.D. is a young college professor in his early twenties. He is the last living member of the Aster family and the last living Starcatcher. J.D. isn't sure about his future, but he steps up to help Sarah and Aidan. He works with them to protect the starstuff and keep it away from Ombra. In many ways, he helps make the whole adventure happen.
Peter Pan
Peter Pan is stuck between the ages of 12 and 14 forever. He has lived in Never Land for over 100 years. Peter has always been ready to help the Starcatchers. At first, he doesn't want to help Sarah and J.D., but he eventually goes back to Earth with them. He is described as "A young boy with a wild tousle of red hair, a thin, extravagantly freckled face and upturned nose."
Tinker Bell
As always, this tiny "birdwoman" is by Peter's side throughout his part of the journey. She always has a sharp, rude comment ready for anyone she doesn't like. She doesn't like any female she thinks might come between her and Peter. Because of this, she calls them rude names.
Lord Ombra
Ombra is the main villain in the series. In this book, he returns as a group of large black birds. He has been badly hurt from his past fights with Peter. Lord Ombra is split into these birds, so if one is defeated, he still has more lives. He can still take over people's minds by stealing their shadows and finding out information.
Captain Hook
Captain Hook is a pirate captain who is stuck on Never Land. He desperately wants to leave the island. He used to be known as Black "Stache" Moustache. He wants starstuff so he can become the most feared pirate on the seas again. He hates Peter for cutting off his hand, which is now just a stump covered by his sharp hook. He is also very scared of "Mister Grin," a huge crocodile.
Mr. Magill
Mr. Magill appeared in earlier books and is mentioned in this one even though he is no longer alive. He owned wolves and a bear. He was a Starcatcher who helped Peter and other Starcatchers. He was the one who hid the paper found at the beginning of The Bridge to Never Land. This paper starts the whole adventure! His wolves are the ancestors of the wolves found in the cave where the starstuff is hidden.
Albert Einstein
Albert Einstein was a very famous German scientist. He is known for discovering the Theory of Relativity. In the beginning of the book, Einstein is asked by the Starcatchers to create an Einstein-Rosen Bridge. This "Bridge" (which gives the book its title) seals Never Land off from the outside world. A secret story about Einstein's connection to Never Land is a major part of the novel.
