Chronology
Followed by The Big Breakfast

The Channel Four Daily (sometimes called Channel 4 Daily) was a special kind of TV show called a breakfast television news magazine. It was made by a company called Independent Television News along with other TV production groups for Channel 4. This show was Channel 4's first ever program to be broadcast in the morning. It aired on weekdays from 6 AM (or 6:30 AM after April 1990) until 9:25 AM. The very first episode was shown on April 3, 1989, and the last one aired on September 25, 1992.

Unfortunately, The Channel Four Daily didn't get enough people watching it. Because of this, a new show called The Big Breakfast took its place starting on September 28, 1992.

What Was The Channel Four Daily?

This TV show was designed to be like a newspaper you could watch. It focused on news and important current events. A main part of the show was World News, which had presenters reporting live from three different continents!

The show also included many short segments, each lasting about 5 to 10 minutes. Some were live, and others were pre-recorded. These short clips were shown several times throughout the morning.

Popular Segments

Here are some of the interesting parts of The Channel Four Daily:

  • Business Daily: This segment covered news about money and businesses. It had actually been on TV since 1987 as a lunchtime show.
  • Kickback: This part of the show was all about sports discussions.
  • Streetwise: This segment gave helpful tips and reports for shoppers and consumers.
  • Box Office: This section focused on arts and entertainment, often including movie reviews.
  • Countdown Masters: This was a shorter version of the popular game show Countdown.
  • Comic Book: A fun cartoon slot for viewers.

Changes in 1990

In April 1990, some changes were made to the show. The Streetwise segment was removed, and Kickback was replaced by an International Sports Report. The show also started 30 minutes later, at 6:30 AM instead of 6 AM. The time from 6 AM to 6:30 AM was then filled by a show called The Art of Landscape and an early edition of Business Daily.
