Later, many of the early Hardy Boys books were updated. Between 1959 and 1973, the first 38 books were changed. Harriet Adams, who was Edward Stratemeyer's daughter, led this project. The original story of The Crisscross Shadow was made shorter in 1969. Priscilla Baker-Carr did this revision. Because of these changes, there are two slightly different versions of the story. Both versions share the same title.
