The Secret of Wildcat Swamp is the 31st book in the original The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories series. These popular adventure books were published by Grosset & Dunlap. The story follows teenage detectives Frank and Joe Hardy as they solve a thrilling mystery.

About the Book's History

This exciting mystery was written for the Stratemeyer Syndicate by William Dougherty. It was first published in 1952. The Stratemeyer Syndicate was a company that created many popular book series, including the Hardy Boys.

Over the years, many Hardy Boys books were updated. Between 1959 and 1973, the first 38 books in the series were revised. This project was led by Harriet Adams, who was Edward Stratemeyer's daughter. The original version of The Secret of Wildcat Swamp was shortened in 1969 by Priscilla Baker-Carr. Because of these changes, there are two slightly different versions of the story with the same title.

What's the Story About?

The adventure in The Secret of Wildcat Swamp begins with a science trip. Frank and Joe Hardy join a paleontology expedition out West. Paleontology is the study of ancient life, like dinosaurs, through fossils.

But this science trip quickly turns into a thrilling chase! The boys find themselves trying to catch people who have been robbing freight trains. These are trains that carry goods across the country. On top of that, they also need to find an escaped person who has broken out of prison. It's a double mystery that keeps the Hardy Boys busy!
