About the Book's Creation

Who Wrote This Hardy Boys Mystery?

The story for The Wailing Siren Mystery was created by the Stratemeyer Syndicate. This was a company that planned many popular children's book series. They hired different writers to write the actual books. For this book, Andrew E. Svenson wrote the story in 1951.

How the Story Changed Over Time

Many Hardy Boys books were updated years after they first came out. Between 1959 and 1973, the first 38 books in the series were rewritten. Harriet Adams, who was the daughter of Edward Stratemeyer (who started the Syndicate), led this project. The original version of The Wailing Siren Mystery was made shorter in 1968. Priscilla Baker-Carr did this rewriting. Because of this, there are two versions of the story with the same title.

Unraveling the Mystery: The Plot

A Strange Start to a New Case

The Hardy Boys are known for solving tough cases. In The Wailing Siren Mystery, their adventure begins during a storm. They try to send an SOS signal to a strange yacht, but the yacht ignores them. Soon after, they find a wallet near their speedboat. It seems to have fallen from a helicopter. Inside the wallet is a large sum of money: two thousand dollars! This strange event pulls them into a new and exciting mystery.

Following the Clues and Finding Answers

Frank and Joe quickly find themselves searching for answers. They need to figure out who kidnapped Jack Wayne. They also need to find out where his plane went. As they investigate, they keep hearing a mysterious "wailing siren". This strange sound is another clue they must follow. The boys use their detective skills to connect all these different clues. They work to solve the puzzle of the missing person, the stolen plane, and the mysterious siren.
