The Secret of the Lost Tunnel is an exciting mystery book. It is the 29th story in the original The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories series. These popular books are about two teenage brothers, Frank and Joe Hardy, who solve mysteries. This book was published by Grosset & Dunlap.
About the Book's History
This book was first written in 1950 by Andrew E. Svenson. He wrote it for the Stratemeyer Syndicate. This was a group that created many famous children's book series, like the Hardy Boys. They planned the stories, and then different writers wrote them.
Later, between 1959 and 1973, many of the early Hardy Boys books were updated. This was done by Harriet Adams, who was the daughter of Edward Stratemeyer, the person who started the Syndicate. The original story of The Secret of the Lost Tunnel was made shorter in 1968. This means there are two versions of the book with the same name, but they tell slightly different stories!
What the Story is About
In The Secret of the Lost Tunnel, Frank and Joe Hardy go on an adventure. They travel with a military leader named Brigadier General Jack Smith. A Brigadier General is a high-ranking officer in the army. Their journey takes them to an old battlefield from the American Civil War. This war happened a long time ago in American history.
The battlefield is called Rocky Run. It's near a town called Centerville in the southern part of the United States. There's an old legend about this place. It says that a general from the Confederate side of the Civil War was accused of stealing gold from a bank. General Smith wants to prove that this old general was innocent. He wants to clear the general's name, even though he lived many years ago. The Hardy Boys help him try to solve this old mystery and find the truth about the lost gold and the tunnel.
