The Sign of the Crooked Arrow is the 28th book in the exciting original The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories series. It was first published by Grosset & Dunlap.

This mystery adventure was written in 1949 by Andrew E. Svenson for the Stratemeyer Syndicate. Over the years, many Hardy Boys books were updated. Between 1959 and 1973, the first 38 books in the series were changed. The original story of The Sign of the Crooked Arrow was made shorter in 1970 by Priscilla Baker-Carr. This means there are two different versions of the story with the same title!

What's the Story About?

In The Sign of the Crooked Arrow, the famous detective brothers, Frank and Joe Hardy, are busy investigating a series of jewelry store thefts. But their work is suddenly interrupted!

They get an urgent call for help from their cousin. Their cousin lives on a New Mexico cattle ranch. The Hardy brothers quickly travel to New Mexico to help. There, they uncover a strange secret involving "Arrow" cigarettes. They learn that these cigarettes can make people pass out. This happens because of a special gas that comes from vents in the ground in New Mexico. This gas was first found by American Indians. The boys must figure out how these strange events are connected to the "crooked arrow" and solve the mystery!
