The Daring Twins: A Story for Young Folk is an exciting mystery novel written for young readers. It was created by L. Frank Baum, who is famous for writing the Oz books. This book first came out in 1911. It was meant to be the first book in a series of adventures about the Daring family.
L. Frank Baum had big plans for more books about the Daring family. However, only one more book, called Phoebe Daring, was published in 1912. Unlike some of his other mystery or adventure stories, Baum used his real name for these two "Daring Twins" books. He often used different names for his other works.
In 2006, The Daring Twins was re-released with a new title: The Secret of the Lost Fortune. When this newer version came out, it included a note. This note explained that some older books might have words or ideas that people today find a bit old-fashioned or not very nice.
Unraveling the Mystery
This story is about five children who are orphans, meaning their parents have passed away. Two of these children are twins.
Phil and Phoebe's Challenge
One of the twins, Phil Daring, works at a bank. Suddenly, people start to think he has stolen something, even though he is innocent. His twin sister, Phoebe, is a very brave and determined 16-year-old. She decides to take charge and prove that her brother Phil did nothing wrong.
Family Secrets and Values
The Daring twins' father used to be in the sugar business. He lost all his money because he refused to join a big group of companies that wanted to control the market. He believed that these kinds of groups were "unfair and morally wrong." This part of the story gives readers a peek into the kinds of values L. Frank Baum thought were important.
