Lukas-Kasha, often called Kasha, lives in a town called Zara-Petra. He loves playing tricks and tries to avoid work whenever he can. One day, he pays a street magician for a trick. Suddenly, Kasha is transported to a strange new world known as Abadan.
When he arrives in Shirazan, the royal city of Abadan, something amazing happens. He is immediately declared the new king! At first, Kasha loves being royalty. He enjoys the delicious food and the fancy palace. But he soon learns that being a king is much more than just having fun.
Kasha tries to make new laws and change how the kingdom is run. However, he faces strong opposition from his Grand Vizier, Shugdad Mirza. A Grand Vizier is like a very powerful chief minister or advisor to the king. Shugdad Mirza does not want Kasha to change anything.
Because of this conflict, Kasha is soon forced to run for his life. He escapes the palace with the help of a young girl named Nur-Jehan, who was enslaved there. A public poet, known as a versifier, also helps him get away.
