The Gurkha Museum is a special place that celebrates the brave Gurkha soldiers. These soldiers have served the British Crown for a very long time, ever since 1815! You can find this museum in Winchester, England. It's part of a group of museums called Winchester's Military Museums.

The Museum's Story
The Gurkha Museum first opened its doors on June 21, 1974. It was located at Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Church Crookham. A famous leader named Field Marshal Lord Harding officially opened it.
Moving to a New Home
The first museum was in a wooden building. Everyone knew it would need a bigger, more lasting home. When the Rifle Depot closed in Peninsula Barracks, Winchester, it was the perfect chance. In April 1989, the museum moved all its amazing items to Winchester. Field Marshal Lord Bramall then opened the new museum on July 16, 1990.
Gurkha Museum in Nepal
In 1994, another Gurkha Museum was started in Kathmandu, Nepal. It later moved to Pokhara in 2005. This museum has become one of the most popular places to visit in that area.
What You Can See
The museum has many cool things to explore. You can see special displays and interactive screens. These show you what Nepal is like and tell the amazing stories of Gurkha soldiers.
Gurkha Military History
You can learn about the Gurkhas' famous military history. This includes stories of their bravery and the 26 Victoria Crosses they have earned. The Victoria Cross is a very high award for courage. The museum shows how Gurkhas have served the British Crown in many wars and battles.
Gurkha Regiments
It also tells the history of four Gurkha regiments. These groups joined the British Army in 1948. They are:
- The Royal Gurkha Rifles
- The Queen's Gurkha Engineers
- The Queen's Gurkha Signals
- The Queen's Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment
Research and Learning
On the second floor, there is a library. It also has archives and a research room. Here, people can learn even more about the Gurkhas and their history.
