How Players Got the Game
This special collection was not sold in stores like other games. Players had to get it through special offers.
Getting the Game in Different Regions
In Japan, players could get the Collector's Edition using points from Club Nintendo. Later, it was offered with another game, Four Swords Adventures.
In North America, the game often came with a new Nintendo GameCube console. Players could also get it by signing up for or renewing a subscription to Nintendo Power magazine. Another way was to register a GameCube and two other specific games.
In Europe, the game was part of a special bundle with the GameCube and Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. A small number of copies were also available through Club Nintendo using "stars."
Players in the United Kingdom could get the game by sending Nintendo proof that they bought certain GameCube games. This included popular titles like The Wind Waker and Mario Kart: Double Dash!!.
In the Netherlands, it was a gift for new subscribers to a gaming magazine called [N]Gamer. In Australia, players received it as a bonus when they bought two selected games. They had to send in receipts and barcodes to get their copy.
Game Issues and Challenges
When older games are put on newer consoles, sometimes small problems can happen. This collection had a few issues, especially with Majora's Mask.
Problems with Majora's Mask
The game disc mentioned that Majora's Mask might have "sound irregularities." However, it did not mention that the game could sometimes freeze. This freezing happened more often if players used the rumble feature on their controller.
The game's speed, or "framerate," was also slower than the original Majora's Mask game. This might have been because the original game used a special "Expansion Pack" that the GameCube had trouble copying perfectly.
Majora's Mask also had some visual problems. For example, a blur effect used in cutscenes might not disappear or load correctly.
Issues with Ocarina of Time
Ocarina of Time had fewer problems because it did not use the Expansion Pack. However, it still had some minor issues. Things like lens flares and other special effects sometimes did not appear.
Common Menu Freezes
Both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask had a similar problem when opening the inventory menu. Normally, the game takes a picture of the screen before the menu appears. Emulators sometimes struggled with this, causing the game to freeze for a few seconds. This also happened when closing the menu.
