The Lone Ranger was a popular American television show about a masked hero and his loyal friend. It was a western series that lasted for 30 minutes per episode. The show starred Clayton Moore as The Lone Ranger. His Native American friend, Tonto, was played by Jay Silverheels.

This series was one of the most watched shows when television was still new. It was a big success for the ABC network. The show first aired on September 15, 1949, and its last episode was on June 8, 1957. The first five seasons were shown in black and white. The very last season was filmed and broadcast in color. There were 221 episodes in total.

George Trendle and Fran Striker were the people who produced the show. For a short time, another actor named John Hart played The Lone Ranger. This happened when Clayton Moore had a disagreement about his pay. In 1954, a rich businessman named Jack Wrather bought the show. He also owned other famous TV shows like Lassie and Sgt. Preston of the Yukon. After the TV show ended, two movies were made: The Lone Ranger and The Lone Ranger and the Lost City of Gold.

You can still find some episodes of The Lone Ranger on video and DVD. Sometimes, the show is also shown again as reruns on TV. The series was famous for using classical music in its episodes. The most well-known music was the opening and closing theme. It was a part of Gioachino Rossini's William Tell Overture.

People also remember the famous lines from the end of each episode. Someone would ask, "Who was that masked man?" And The Lone Ranger would always shout, "Hi-Yo, Silver! Away!" Many different toys and items were made while the show was popular. These included games, costumes, toy guns, holsters, and comic books.
