The Mystery of the Missing Necklace is an exciting book by Enid Blyton. It's part of her popular series about the Five Find-Outers and their dog. This book first came out in 1947. Methuen published it, and Joseph Abbey drew the pictures.

The Story of the Missing Necklace

During their summer holidays, the Five Find-Outers are a bit bored. But then, they hear something exciting! It seems their village, Peterswood, might be a secret meeting place for a group of jewel thieves. These thieves have been stealing valuable jewels from places outside the village. The children suspect the gang members are sending secret messages to each other right there in Peterswood.

Fatty's Clever Disguises

One of the Find-Outers, Fatty, has grown up a bit, and his voice has changed. This helps him create amazing new disguises. He pretends to be an old woman selling balloons. He also dresses up as an old man who sits on a bench in the village square every afternoon. The children soon figure out that the gang was using this old man to pass on their secret messages.

The Waxworks Meeting

The Find-Outers learn that the gang plans to meet at a waxworks hall. They want to talk about their next big robbery. Fatty decides to sneak in and listen. He cleverly disguises himself as a wax figure of Napoleon! But he's not the only one with a plan. Mr. Goon, the local policeman, also has the same idea. He dresses up as a police officer wax figure.

During the gang's secret meeting, Mr. Goon suddenly sneezes! This gives away his disguise. But instead of catching Mr. Goon, the gang catches Fatty! They tie him up and lock him in a cupboard. Then, the thieves leave to go on another jewellery robbery.

Solving the Mystery

Mr. Goon decides to leave Fatty locked in the cupboard for a while, hoping to teach him a lesson. But another Find-Outer, Larry, comes back to the hall and frees Fatty. At first, the children think Mr. Goon has solved the whole mystery because the jewel thieves are arrested.

However, there's still one big problem: a valuable pearl necklace that was stolen is still missing! The Find-Outers don't give up. They keep searching and finally find the missing necklace. It's hidden on the wax figure of Queen Elizabeth in the wax museum! With this discovery, the last member of the gang is arrested, and the mystery is completely solved.
