The Naughtiest Girl Is a Monitor is an exciting children's book written by Enid Blyton. It was published in 1945 and is the third book in The Naughtiest Girl series. This story follows Elizabeth Allen as she takes on a new role at her boarding school, Whyteleafe.

Becoming a Monitor

In this book, Elizabeth, who used to be known as the "naughtiest girl," is chosen for a special job. She becomes a class monitor at Whyteleafe School. Being a monitor means she helps the teachers keep things running smoothly. She is in charge of helping other students and making sure rules are followed. This is a big responsibility for someone who was once so mischievous!

Meet the New Students

Whyteleafe School welcomes some new faces in this story. These new students bring fresh challenges and friendships for Elizabeth.

Julian Holland: The Clever Prankster

Julian Holland is a new boy with a fun-loving attitude. He is very smart and loves to come up with jokes and tricks. Julian quickly becomes one of Elizabeth's good friends. At first, he doesn't seem interested in schoolwork. However, something important happens that makes him decide to work much harder. Julian has bright green eyes and dark black hair.

Arabella Buckley: The Spoiled Girl

Arabella Buckley is another new student. She is very rich and used to getting her own way. Arabella visits Elizabeth's home during the school holidays. She cares a lot about looking proper and having good manners.

When Arabella learns that the students at Whyteleafe help run the school, she is shocked. She especially dislikes the rule about sharing pocket money equally. Even though she acts very proper, Arabella often breaks rules to get what she wants. She even tries to hide some of her money and plans a secret midnight party.

Arabella and Elizabeth don't get along well at first. This is especially true when Arabella finds out Elizabeth is her monitor. But by the end of the story, Elizabeth does something brave. She saves a young boy from drowning and asks for a fun school trip to the fair as a reward. This makes even Arabella happy to have Elizabeth as her monitor again.

Martin Follett: The Secret Giver

Martin Follett is another new pupil at Whyteleafe. He has wide, innocent eyes. Martin seems very kind and generous. He often helps other students when their things go missing. He gives them money or sweets, which he says are his own. Because of his kindness, he is often overlooked by other students and doesn't seem to have many friends.

Later in the story, it is discovered that Martin has been taking things from students. He then gives other things to different students. He thought he was like "Robin Hood." Elizabeth is upset when she learns the truth. However, after a serious event involving Julian's mother, Martin bravely confesses what he has done. He apologizes to Julian for trying to blame him. Martin is forgiven and told to pay back what he took. Another student, Rosemary, decides to become his friend, knowing he will need support.
