The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse and Heckle & Jeckle was a fun cartoon TV show that aired from 1979 to 1980. It brought back classic characters like Mighty Mouse and the clever magpies Heckle & Jeckle. The show was made by a company called Filmation and was shown on the CBS network.
This series was actually the second TV show starring Mighty Mouse. The first one was Mighty Mouse Playhouse, which ran for many years. After this show, there was another series called Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures in the late 1980s.
What Was in the Show?
When the show first started, each episode was an hour long. It was packed with different cartoons! Here's what you could expect to see:
- Two cartoons featuring the super strong Mighty Mouse.
- Two cartoons with the tricky duo, Heckle and Jeckle.
- One cartoon starring a character named Quacula.
- One part of a special science fiction story called The Great Space Chase. This story had 16 parts in total.
The show also tried to be a bit educational. It included "Mighty Mouse Environmental Bulletins" to teach about nature. Heckle & Jeckle also had segments about "Homonyms," which are words that sound the same but have different meanings.
In 1980, the show became shorter, only lasting 30 minutes. It also moved to a different day, airing on Sundays for its final season. Later, in 1982, the The Great Space Chase story was turned into a full-length movie. It was shown in some movie theaters and then came out on home video.
In this series, Mighty Mouse's old enemy, Oil Can Harry, had a new helper. This helper was a big, fast cat named Swifty.
