The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel

The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel is a cool place to stay in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. It's not just a hotel; it's a building with a long and interesting history! It used to be a place where wool was stored and prepared.

A Look Back: The Woolstore's Past

This special building has been around for a long time. Before it became a wool storage place, the area had simple, small homes, sometimes called shanties.

Around the year 1900, the site changed. It became a big facility for storing and treating wool. Imagine huge amounts of wool arriving here! Workers would press the wool into tight bundles. This made it easier to ship the wool from Hobart to other places.

The very top floor of the building was used for treating the wool. This work needed lots of natural light. That's why the roof on the top floor has a special "saw-tooth" shape. It looks like the teeth of a saw and lets in plenty of sunshine.

In 1997, the National Trust gave the Old Woolstore a special award. It was named the "Best Redeveloped Industrial Building." This means they did a great job turning an old factory-like building into something new and useful. Even today, the original floors of the building are still there!
