The Perfect Pumpkin Pie facts for kids
The Perfect Pumpkie Pie is a fun children's picture book from 2005, written and illustrated by Denys Cazet. It tells a spooky yet silly story about a special pumpkin pie and a very particular ghost!
What the Story is About
This book takes place on Halloween, a time for costumes, candy, and spooky tales. The main characters are Mrs. Wilkerson and her husband, who is a bit grumpy. Mrs. Wilkerson bakes a delicious pumpkin pie, which sounds perfect for a Halloween night!
The Special Pie and a Surprise
Mrs. Wilkerson bakes a truly perfect pumpkin pie for her husband. She playfully tells him that when people are no longer around, there won't be any pie to enjoy. Her husband, who really loves pie, loudly says he doesn't want to leave! Soon after, he suddenly collapses right into his beloved pumpkin pie.
A New Home and a Ghostly Return
After this surprising event, Mrs. Wilkerson buries her husband in the yard and decides to move away. Later, a boy named Jack and his grandmother move into the house. They also decide to bake a pie, perhaps a pumpkin pie, just like the one before.
But the story doesn't end there! The husband, who loved his pumpkin pie so much, returns as a ghost! He comes back because he really wants to eat some pumpkin pie. He tries the first pie Jack and his grandmother make, but he doesn't like it. He's a very picky ghost!
He tries a third pie, and this one he finally enjoys. After eating his fill, the ghost goes back underground. But he doesn't stay gone for long! He comes back up again when he smells another delicious pie – this time, it's an apple pie! It seems his love for pie is stronger than anything, even being a ghost!
