The Princes and the Treasure is a children's picture book and fairy tale. It was written by Jeffrey A. Miles and has illustrations by J. L. Phillips. The book was first released in the United States on February 9, 2014. Handsome Prince Publishing released the book. It has been translated into many languages and is available in over 137 countries. The story is about two men who go on a quest to save a princess. During their adventure, they find a very special connection with each other.

A second book, called The Princes and the Dragon, continues the story. It will show Earnest and Gallant's life as they raise twin boys.

Story Summary

The story begins with Princess Elena. She is strong and clever. Her father, King Rufus, wants her to marry a prince. But Elena does not want to marry a prince. She makes a wish, and an old woman takes her away in a carriage.

King Rufus then announces a challenge. He says he will marry Elena to anyone who can rescue her. Two men answer the call:

  • Earnest: He is shy and loves to read books.
  • Gallant: He is strong and brave.

They travel together to the tower where Elena is being held. The old woman tells them they must bring her the "greatest treasure in the land." She will free the princess only if they do.

Earnest and Gallant think she means gold or jewels. They search for five great treasures across the land. As they search, they become very close friends. They realize that the greatest treasure is not something you can hold. It is their special bond and friendship.

They return to the old woman with their answer. She then changes into a beautiful enchantress. Princess Elena is set free. The three return to King Rufus. He is very happy to have his daughter back. The King gives Earnest and Gallant gold and land. He also makes them both princes. The story ends with the two princes living happily ever after in their own castle.

Main Characters

Prince Earnest

Earnest is a shy young man with red hair. He loves to read books about adventures. He would rather read about them than go on them himself. His mother tells him he must go on the quest. Earnest often uses his intelligence to solve problems. He remembers things he has read in his many adventure books.

Prince Gallant

Gallant is known as the strongest and most handsome man in the kingdom of Evergreen. Many people admire him. Unlike Earnest, Gallant is excited to help rescue Princess Elena. He often uses his strength and muscles to overcome challenges during their journey.

Princess Elena

Elena is a beautiful, kind, and funny princess. At the start of the story, her father wants her to marry a prince. But Elena has her own ideas about how she wants to live her life. She does not want to marry just any prince.

Enchantress / Old Woman

At first, she appears as an old woman. She takes Elena away and keeps her in a dark tower. She gives Earnest and Gallant a task. They must find the "greatest treasure in the land." This task leads them on a long adventure. By the end of the story, she reveals herself to be a beautiful enchantress. She can change her shape.

King Rufus

King Rufus is Elena's father. He is a caring and protective single dad. He wants his daughter to be happy. He believes that marrying a prince will also help keep their kingdom safe and strong in the future.

About the Book

The Princes and the Treasure became very popular. In November 2014, a website called Amplifying Glass posted a funny story. It said that Disney was making a movie based on the book. The article went viral, meaning it spread very quickly online. Many people thought the news was real. They shared it on social media like Facebook.

The person who wrote the funny article said it was not meant to be taken seriously. They wrote it because of a comment they saw online. The comment was on an article from The Christian Post. The author wanted to "push the idea of equality a little." They also wanted to "troll" some people who were being negative.
