The Red Vineyard was first shown to the public in 1890. This happened at an art show in Brussels, Belgium. The show was held by a group of artists called Les XX.
How the Painting Was First Sold
At this show, the painting was sold for 400 francs. This amount would be about $2,000 in today's money. The person who bought it was a Belgian artist and collector named Anna Boch. She was known for collecting art.
Where the Painting Went Next
Later, in 1909, a man named Ivan Morozov bought the painting. He was a wealthy art collector from Paris. After the Russian Revolution, which was a big change in Russia's government, the painting was taken by the new government. This is called being "nationalised."
The Painting's Home Today
Eventually, The Red Vineyards near Arles was moved to the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. This museum is in Moscow, Russia. You can still see the painting there today.
