The Secret Garden is a TV show from 1975 made in Britain. It's based on the famous book of the same name by Frances Hodgson Burnett, which was written in 1911. Dorothea Brooking adapted the story for TV, and she also produced and directed the show. It first aired on BBC 1 and had seven episodes, each about 30 minutes long.
Story of the Secret Garden
The TV series starts with a young girl named Mary Lennox, played by Sarah Hollis Andrews. She is left alone after people in her house leave because they are afraid of a sickness called Cholera. Some soldiers find her and send her to live with her uncle at Misselthwaite Manor.
At the manor, Mary becomes friends with the maids. She also meets a boy named Dickon, who knows a lot about animals and nature. One night, Mary hears crying and goes to find out what it is. She discovers her cousin, Colin, who is usually stuck in bed.
Colin believes he has a curved spine, but he soon learns this is not true. With Mary and Dickon's help, Colin starts to go outside. They spend time together in the beautiful gardens around the manor.
Mary finds a special key and a hidden door. She learns that behind the wall is a secret garden. This garden belonged to her uncle's wife, who loved working in it every day. After she passed away, her uncle hid the key and the door.
As the children spend more time in the garden, Colin learns to walk again. Mary's uncle finds out about Colin's progress and the secret garden. The story ends with Mary's uncle and Colin walking together, showing how much things have changed for the better.
