What is The Silver Princess in Oz About?
This book tells the tale of young King Randy of Regalia. He first appeared in Thompson's book, The Purple Prince of Oz. King Randy gets a visit from his old friend, Kabumpo. Kabumpo is a very fancy elephant from a place called Pumperdink.
A Journey to the Land of Ev
King Randy and Kabumpo decide to visit their friend Jinnicky the Red Jinn. Jinnicky also appeared in Purple Prince of Oz. Their journey takes them to the Land of Ev. On their way, they meet two new and interesting characters.
Meeting Planetty and Thun
They meet Planetty, who is a silver princess. She comes from "Anuther Planet," which is a fun way of saying "another planet." Planetty travels with her special pet, a colt named Thun. Thun is no ordinary horse; he can breathe fire!
Trouble at Jinnicky's Palace
When the group finally arrives at Jinnicky's palace, they find big trouble. Jinnicky has been removed from his position. He has also been put under a magic spell. An untrustworthy servant is behind this mischief. The friends must work together to help Jinnicky.
Characters in the Story
Ruth Plumly Thompson often created her own characters for the Oz books. In The Silver Princess in Oz, she mostly uses characters she invented. This is different from some other Oz books that feature classic characters like Dorothy.
Who Else Appears?
Planetty and Thun, the silver princess and her fire-breathing colt, appear again in another Oz story. They return in a book called The Magic Dishpan of Oz. This book was written by Jeff Freedman in 1994.
