The Swan Princess: A Royal Family Tale is a fun computer-animated movie from 2014. It was made by Crest Animation Productions and Nest Family Entertainment. Richard Rich directed it. The main characters, Princess Odette and Prince Derek, are voiced by Laura Bailey and Yuri Lowenthal. This film is the fifth one in The Swan Princess series. In this adventure, Odette and Derek adopt a brave young girl named Alise. They also work together to defeat a powerful evil called the Forbidden Arts. The movie came out on DVD and Blu-ray on February 25, 2014. This was to celebrate 20 years of The Swan Princess movies! Another movie, The Swan Princess: Princess Tomorrow, Pirate Today, came out later in 2016.

The Story of the Royal Family

This movie's story begins a long, long time ago. A powerful evil force, called the Forbidden Arts, came to Earth. It wanted to destroy all other magic. The Forbidden Arts learned about an old legend. This legend said that a "swan princess" would bring goodness to the world. It also said that pure evil could not survive near her.

The Corrupted Prophecy

However, the Forbidden Arts changed this legend. It made it seem like the Swan Princess would bring sadness and destruction. It also learned that a special "Glowing Stone" could defeat the Swan Princess.

A group of large, talking flying squirrels, called scullions, found this fake legend. Over many years, they formed a group. Their goal was to find and destroy the Swan Princess. When Princess Odette was born, the Forbidden Arts tried to use a sorcerer named Rothbart to stop her. But it failed.

A New Family Member

In the present time, Queen Uberta wants Odette and Derek to have a child. Odette and Derek don't know that the scullions are watching them. Two scullion brothers, Cutter and Jojo, are especially good at setting traps.

The Forbidden Arts has teamed up with Mangler, the scullion leader. But the Forbidden Arts is angry because their plans keep failing. It leaves its cave to try and harm Odette. But Odette's magic protects her. The Forbidden Arts has to go back to its crystal to get stronger. Instead, a nearby house catches fire. A little girl named Alise loses her father in the fire.

Odette and Derek bring Alise to their castle. Odette feels a special connection with Alise. This is because both of them lost their fathers in sad ways. Alise doesn't speak at first. But she slowly starts to trust Odette and Derek. They decide to adopt her because she has no other family.

The Scullion Attack

The scullions attack Uberta's castle. They kidnap Alise to make Odette and Derek follow them. They lock everyone else in the cellar. Odette and Derek avoid the scullions' traps. But Derek is hit by a poison dart from Mangler.

A friendly scullion, whom Odette names Scully, helps Derek. Scully cures Derek and explains everything. He tells them about the fake Swan Princess legend and the Forbidden Arts. Scully also reveals that he has been keeping the magical stone safe. The group then sets off to rescue Alise.

Revealing the Truth

Derek creates a distraction. Meanwhile, Scully sneaks into the scullion village. He finds Alise in the Forbidden Arts' cave. But he can't free her. The scullions are about to hurt Derek. Odette steps in and explains that she only wants her loved ones to be safe.

Scully tells the scullions that their legend is a lie. He says the real evil is the Forbidden Arts. Mangler shoots a poison dart at Odette. But Jojo, one of the scullion brothers, blocks it. Odette uses an antidote from Scully to cure Jojo. Then, the tablet with the fake legend changes. It shows the true prophecy about the good Swan Princess.

The Final Battle

Back at the castle, Uberta and Rogers are about to be punished by the scullions. They were protecting the Swan Princess. Uberta and Rogers tell each other how they feel. Jojo and the other scullions arrive with the real prophecy tablet. This proves that Odette is good. They free Uberta and the others.

The scullion army works with Derek, Puffin, Jean-Bob, and Speed. They try to protect the magical stone. But the Forbidden Arts gets the stone and becomes even more powerful.

Odette and Scully go into the Forbidden Arts' cave to save Alise. Mangler attacks them. Scully defeats Mangler. Odette tries to break Alise's prison, but she can't. Alise finally speaks! She tells Odette to destroy the Forbidden Arts' crystal. When Odette can't do it, Scully jumps onto the crystal. He sacrifices himself to destroy the Forbidden Arts.

In the big explosion, Alise is freed and is safe. She calls out to Odette, saying "Mommy." The movie ends with everyone celebrating Princess Alise being presented to the kingdom. A statue of Scully is placed in the castle garden to remember his bravery.
