The Tale of Little Pig Robinson is a fun children's book. It was written and illustrated by Beatrix Potter. She is famous for her Peter Rabbit stories. This book has eight chapters and many lovely pictures. Even though it was published in 1930, it was one of the first stories Beatrix Potter ever wrote!

About the Story

Beatrix Potter wrote this story to explain something. She wanted to show how the pig from Edward Lear's poem, "The Owl and the Pussycat", traveled. In Lear's poem, the pig goes to a special place. This place is called "the land where the Bong-Tree grows". Potter's book tells us how that pig got there.

The Adventure Begins

Little Pig Robinson lives with his aunts. Their names are Miss Porcas and Miss Dorcas. They send him to the market. His job is to sell farm produce. He also needs to buy things they need for the farm.

On his way home, something exciting happens. A sailor stops Little Pig Robinson. The sailor offers him many interesting goods. He also offers him a chance to travel the world! Little Pig Robinson thinks this sounds wonderful. He agrees to go with the sailor.

A Tricky Situation

Little Pig Robinson goes with the sailor to a ship. The sailor tells him to go below deck. He says, "Help yourself to muffins and crumpets!" Pig Robinson is happy to do so.

But then, the ship leaves the dock. Little Pig Robinson quickly realizes something is wrong. He has been tricked! He was kidnapped! The sailor he met was actually the ship's cook. The cook planned to turn Little Pig Robinson into a big meal for the ship's crew.

The Escape

Luckily, the ship has a kind cat. This cat helps Little Pig Robinson. Together, they escape in a small rowing boat. They row and row until they reach a new place. This place is "the land where the Bong tree grows".

Some time later, Pig Robinson meets two new friends there. They are the Owl and the Pussycat! This is how he ends up in their famous poem.

Movie Version

In 1990, The Tale of Little Pig Robinson became a British TV movie. Dreamscape Company produced it. Alan Bridges directed the film.

Many famous actors were in it. Timothy Spall played Pig Robinson. Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders played his aunts, Porcas and Dorcas. Edward Fox was the ship's captain, Barnabas Butcher. And Toyah Wilcox played the helpful ship's cat.
