The Things We See was a Canadian children's television series all about art. It aired on CBC Television in 1957. The show helped young viewers discover art and interesting patterns in everyday objects.

Discovering Art with Alan Jarvis

The show was hosted by Alan Jarvis, who was the director of the National Gallery of Canada. He wanted to help viewers look closely at everyday items and find interesting patterns in them. The show even featured real objects from the National Gallery! The series was named after a book Jarvis wrote in 1947, also called The Things We See - Indoors and Out.

To help with the 11th episode, which was about color, special postcards were sold to viewers. This was important because at that time, CBC only broadcast shows in black-and-white.

When Did the Show Air?

There were 12 episodes of this half-hour series. They were shown every Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. The show ran from July 2, 1957, to September 24, 1957.
