The Three Pigs is a fun picture book for children. It was written and illustrated by David Wiesner. The book came out in 2001. It takes the classic story of Three Little Pigs and adds a cool twist. In this book, the pigs actually leave their own story! They jump into other tales, which are shown in different art styles. David Wiesner won the 2002 Caldecott Medal for his amazing pictures in this book. It was his second time winning this special award.
What Happens in The Three Pigs?
The story begins like the old tale. Three pigs decide to build their own houses. Two of the pigs love to play and are not very careful. The third pig is very hardworking and responsible. He tells his brothers to build strong houses. This way, they will be safe from the big bad wolf.
The first pig is the laziest. He quickly builds his house out of straw. The second pig is also not very careful. He builds his house from sticks because it is fast and easy. The third pig works hard. He builds a strong house made of bricks. The other two pigs make fun of him because his house takes longer to build.
The Pigs' Big Adventure
When the wolf comes, he blows down the straw house. But something surprising happens! The pig is blown right out of the story's picture frame. He is no longer in the traditional tale. Then, the wolf blows down the stick house. That pig also flies out of the story frame.
The two pigs are now outside their own story. They fold a page from their book into a paper airplane. They fly off to visit other storybooks! They even help characters in other tales. They save dragons and bring characters from nursery rhymes into their adventure. It's a very creative journey!
A Film That Never Was
In 2002, there was talk about making The Three Pigs into a movie. Walt Disney Animation Studios was interested. They planned to make it a mix of 2D and 3D animation. However, the movie project was later stopped. We don't know exactly why it was cancelled.
