The Tower, Meridian Quay is a very tall building in Swansea, Wales. It is the tallest building in all of Wales! This amazing tower stands 107 meters (351 feet) high. It is the only true 'skyscraper' in Wales. A skyscraper is a building over 100 meters tall.

The tower was first called Ferrara Tower. It was part of a big project to build homes and offices. This project cost about £50 million. Plans for the £40 million building were approved in 2003. Building started in 2006. A small fire happened on the 20th floor in April 2008. Firefighters put it out in 45 minutes. The tower reached its full height on September 12, 2008. This is called 'topping out'.

The tower has 29 floors. This is twice as many as the previous tallest building in Swansea, the BT Tower. Most of the tower has apartments where people live. The ground floor has a concierge desk. Someone is always there, 24 hours a day. The top three floors have the Altitude28 Restaurant & Sky Bar. This restaurant opened on December 1st, 2024. It replaced an older restaurant called Grape and Olive.

Restaurants at the Top

The restaurant at the top of the Tower used to be called Grape and Olive. It was run by the Brains Brewery. Before that, there was a restaurant called Penthouse. It could serve 290 people but was not very successful.

On January 13, 2023, a sign was put up. It told customers that Grape and Olive was closed. The sign said, "The Grape and Olive is now officially closed until further notice. Apologies for any inconvenience caused." The new Altitude28 Restaurant & Sky Bar opened in its place in December 2024.

High-Rise Living

In 2008, there was news about a special apartment. The penthouse apartment is on the 26th floor. It was sold for £1 million. This shows how popular living in such a tall building can be.
