Theatre in the Park is a special place in Raleigh, North Carolina. It's a community theatre where people of all ages can enjoy live shows. The theatre's leader is Ira David Wood III. He is famous for his musical play based on Charles Dickens' book, A Christmas Carol. Mr. Wood has played the main character, Ebenezer Scrooge, in almost every show since 1974. How the Theatre Started
Theatre in the Park began a long time ago, in 1947. It was first called The Children's Theatre of Raleigh, Inc. This means it was created especially for kids' shows. In the early 1970s, its name changed to Theatre in the Park. This new name showed that the theatre was offering more types of shows. It also reflected its new home.
The Theatre's Home
The theatre found its new home in the National Guard Armory building. This building is located inside Pullen Park in Raleigh. The theatre is an indoor space. It has air conditioning, which makes it comfortable for audiences. About 250 people can sit and watch a show there. In 2004, the building was given a new name. It became "The Ira David Wood III Pullen Park Theatre." This was done to honor Ira David Wood III for his many years of hard work.
