Theia is an important figure in ancient Greek myths. She was one of the powerful beings called Titans. Theia was known as the Titan of sight and shining light.
Who Was Theia?
Theia was a goddess from ancient Greek mythology. She was part of the first generation of Titans. These were powerful gods and goddesses who ruled before the Olympian gods. Theia was special because she represented sight and the brightness of the sky.
Theia's Family Tree
Theia had very powerful parents. Her mother was Gaia, who was the Earth itself. Her father was Uranos, who was the Sky. Together, Gaia and Uranos created many of the first Titans.
Theia's Siblings
Theia had many brothers and sisters. They were all Titans, just like her. One of her brothers was Hyperion. He was the Titan of light and observation.
Theia's Children
Theia and her brother Hyperion became partners. They had three very important children together. Each of their children was connected to light and the sky:
- Helios: He was the god of the Sun. Helios drove his fiery chariot across the sky every day.
- Selene: She was the goddess of the Moon. Selene brought light to the night sky.
- Eos: She was the goddess of the Dawn. Eos opened the gates of heaven for Helios to begin his journey.
The Moon's Eyes
Because Selene, the Moon goddess, was her daughter, Theia was sometimes called "the moon's eyes." This meant she was seen as the source of the moon's light and beauty. Her connection to sight made her important for all things that shine.
