Theodore station facts for kids
The Theodore station is a special old building in Theodore, Saskatchewan, Canada. It used to be a busy train station. This building was first built by the Canadian Pacific Railway company. Today, it is a municipal building and home to the Theodore Historical Museum.
History of Theodore Station
The Theodore station building was completed in 1902. It was designed by Ralph Benjamin Pratt for the Canadian Pacific Railway. This station is unique because it is the last one left of a specific design. This design was called the "Type Nine Canadian Pacific Railway Station."
Building Design and Use
The station building has two stories and is made of wood. The first floor had offices and waiting areas for passengers. People would buy tickets and wait for their trains there. The second floor was a home for the station master. The station master was the person in charge of the train station. Their living area was in the dormers, which are windows that stick out from the roof.
From Station to Museum
Train services to Theodore stopped in the 1970s. This meant the station was no longer needed for trains. In 1974, the building was moved from its original spot. It was moved to a new location to be used as a Senior's center. Later, it became the home for the Theodore Historical Museum. The museum helps people learn about the history of Theodore and the surrounding area.
