Theresa El-Amin is an African-American activist who has worked for civil rights and helped organize groups of workers. She was also a member of the Steering Committee for the Green Party of the United States.

Early Life and Activism

Theresa El-Amin went to Tuskegee University. In 1966, she started her work as an activist. She joined the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, often called SNCC. This group worked for civil rights in a peaceful way.

She began her activism in Tuskegee and Atlanta. In Atlanta, she worked for a phone company. She was also active in the Communications Workers of America (CWA), which is a union for workers.

Working for Change

During the 1980s and 1990s, Theresa El-Amin was very busy. She worked with several important groups. These included the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). She also worked with Solidarity and Black Workers for Justice (BWFJ).

She helped office workers at the Cleveland Public Library to organize. Later, in 1996, she helped start the United States Labor Party. From 1993 to 2006, she worked with Jobs from Justice. This group helps workers get fair treatment. She also worked with the Green Party of Rhode Island in the 1990s.

In 1999, she became the first director of the Southern Anti-Racism Network. This group works to fight against racism. Theresa El-Amin continues to speak and organize. She works on issues like fairness for all people and making sure everyone is treated equally.
