Thimphu District is one of the 20 main areas, or districts, in the country of Bhutan. It's like a county or a province. The most important place in Thimphu District is the city of Thimphu. This city is super important because it's the capital of Bhutan! It's also the biggest city in the whole country.

Thimphu District is located in the western part of Bhutan. It is known for its beautiful mountains and traditional Bhutanese culture. The district's government is part of Bhutan's Constitutional monarchy, which means it has a king but also a government that follows a constitution.

Village Blocks of Thimphu

Thimphu District is divided into smaller parts called village blocks. These are known as gewogs in Bhutan. They are like local communities or townships. There are eight of these blocks in Thimphu District:

Geography and Nature

Thimphu District is located in the Himalayas, which are very tall mountains. The district has an elevation of about 2,330 meters (7,640 feet) above sea level. This high altitude means the area has cool weather and beautiful natural scenery.

You can find rice terraces here, which are special farms built on hillsides. There are also traditional houses that show the unique style of Bhutanese architecture. The district is also home to the Dochu La pass, a famous mountain pass with many small temples called choerten. From Dochu La, you can see amazing views of the mountains.
