Thomas & Friends (series 20) facts for kids

Sidney needs to pick up Percy's new wheels. But Sidney often forgets things easily. Thomas suggests Sidney sing a song to help him remember. Sidney accidentally thinks he should take passengers to the Docks. After talking to the Fat Controller, he finally gets the wheels to Percy. They both laugh at the Steamworks.

Philip believes Toby is a boxcab engine, just like him. Philip wants to be Toby's friend. But Toby is not very eager to do the same things as Philip. He finds Philip a bit too pushy and overwhelming. Philip even tries to race Toby to the Ffarquhar Quarry.

One morning, Gordon's firebox needs cleaning. This makes him late to pull the express train. So, the Fat Controller gives Henry the job of pulling the express. Passengers say Henry pulls the express even more smoothly than Gordon. Meanwhile, Gordon is tired of pulling Henry's goods trains. He leaves his Troublesome Trucks at the Blue Mountain Quarry. That night, Gordon is told to take the Flying Kipper. He refuses, so Henry and Thomas trick him into doing it. Gordon pulls the train. When he returns, Sir Topham Hatt tells him he can pull the express again.

"Devious" Diesel is usually mean to other engines on Sodor. His diesel friends like him that way. One day, Thomas sees Diesel being kind to some ducklings. Thomas threatens to tell everyone if Diesel acts mean. Throughout the day, whenever Diesel tries to be devious, Thomas warns him with a "quack quack quack." Arry and Bert find Diesel suspicious. Thomas shows them the ducklings. The two diesel twins find the ducklings cute. This makes Diesel think he can be nice after all.

Thomas has trouble with the Troublesome Trucks again. Samson arrives with a goods train. His brake van, Bradford, offers to help Thomas. Bradford easily puts the Troublesome Trucks in their place. Other engines think Thomas is lucky to have Bradford. However, after delays, Thomas feels Bradford is not helpful. Bradford delays Whiff, Henry, and other friends. Thomas goes without Bradford for a day, even though Bradford shouts at him. Thomas crashes into Percy's trucks on Gordon's Hill. The Fat Controller scolds Thomas for not using a brake van. He says following rules is more important than being on time. Bradford apologizes for the trouble. He says he is leaving Sodor with Samson. Everyone is happy Bradford is leaving for a while, even the Troublesome Trucks.

Samson comes to Sodor to help move stone from the Blue Mountain Quarry. At the quarry, he asks Sir Handel about extra trucks on a siding. Sir Handel explains they are for the docks, but Samson should get them later. Samson gets stuck trying to go up Gordon's Hill. Thomas helps him, and Paxton also assists. The Fat Controller is not happy about the delay. Samson tries to be more careful, only taking one truck and a brake van.

Ryan and Daisy are very different, but they work together. They share duties on the branch line between Harwick and Arlesburgh. One day, Ryan meets the Fat Controller. He tells Ryan that he and Daisy have extra jobs. Ryan tells Daisy about her mail run. But she says Ryan would do it better, so Ryan takes on the mail duty. However, Ryan is late to help Toby with stone deliveries. This gives Ryan more work and causes more delays. Another day, Ryan almost crashes with Duck. He also rushes to the quarry with his coaches, and the passengers do not like it. The Fat Controller is cross with Daisy. The problem is solved when Daisy finally helps by doing her own work and Ryan's work.

James loves to show off and be the center of attention. One day, he boasts too much. The Fat Controller takes his coaches away, leaving James in the shed. Later, James promises to behave and gets a job. But he is unhappy when he finds out it is garbage trucks. He gets grumpy and takes too long to do his work. At Brendam Docks, James is teased again. This makes him laugh. From that day on, he changes his attitude. He does whatever work he needs to do. Another engine will always remind him if he starts getting grumpy again.

A big storm is coming to the Island of Sodor. At Arlesburgh, Skiff's new captain, Joe, checks everything is safe. Duck and Oliver finish their passenger runs. They tease Skiff for being a small rail boat. Captain Joe tells Skiff they are just worried about him. When Joe checks the pirate ship, Skiff is suddenly blown away down the track. He crashes into a tree that fell onto the track. Skiff gets free and waves his sail. This stops Duck and Oliver from crashing. The next morning, they decide Skiff deserves a gift. With Sir Topham Hatt and Harvey, they cheer for Skiff. They think he is the bravest little rail boat they have ever met.

Sir Topham Hatt gives Daisy a special job. She must bring entertainers for a show. Daisy is excited and boasts that entertainers would choose a railcar like her. Engines like Thomas, Duck, and Oliver are not surprised. Ryan says sheep still prefer tank engines. The next day, Daisy does not take her usual passengers. She refuses to pull a truck Stafford tries to couple to her. She leaves without it, with the two entertainers inside. Daisy finds out they are puppet show entertainers when she arrives. Sir Topham Hatt arrives, and Daisy realizes she let everyone down. She comes up with an idea to save the show. She uses one of her windows as a stage. She doesn't like it at first, but then she enjoys it.

Percy remembers racing Harold the Helicopter. One day, he is taking letters to Santa. He thinks Harold is calling him slow again. Percy decides not to listen and tries to make up for time lost in the snow. He doesn't realize Harold is trying to warn him. Percy ends up stuck in a snow-blocked tunnel. Harold offers to take the mail to Hiro, and Percy agrees. Thinking Harold is bothering him, Hiro says Percy never arrived. Harold explains, and Hiro stops. The next day, Percy looks for Harold. He finds him on the other side of the Vicarstown Bridge. Harold says he ran out of fuel. Percy gets fuel for him, saying friends help each other. It will soon be Christmas.

Snow arrives early on Sodor. Donald and Douglas work together to clear the tracks. At a junction, they have a choice. They can clear Thomas' branch line or the track to the Search & Rescue Centre. Douglas suggests the branch line. Donald wants to clear the rescue center track. After clearing that track, they head back to the mainline. They find themselves stuck behind Toby. Later, at Kirk Ronan Junction, they face another choice. Edward's branch line or the track to Ulfstead Castle. Douglas says nothing. The two engines pull each other's ends. Douglas is left without his tender. Thomas tells Donald about the tender. Donald searches for Douglas. After asking Toby, he goes back to the junction. He finds his brother again. Donald later takes Douglas to the Steamworks for repairs. Like all brothers, they sometimes argue, but they always make up.

Daisy thinks she would never need Annie and Clarabel. She is tasked with taking care of passengers on Thomas' Branch Line. Thomas is on quarry duty. But one day, she does need them because Thomas' passengers like her. While on the branch line, Annie and Clarabel hear a strange creaking sound. Daisy stops at a station and uncouples. She then rushes away. After talking to the Fat Controller, she goes to the Dieselworks. The Fat Controller speaks to Annie and Clarabel. He says two wrongs do not make a right. Another day, Thomas tells his coaches Daisy is back to her original work. But he is still on quarry duty. The Fat Controller sent another engine to work on his branch line. The engine sent to work with Annie and Clarabel is Diesel, which makes them very unhappy.

Thomas enjoys competing with Max and Monty. But he starts to question their friendship. Max and Monty mess around while working, which affects Thomas's jobs. Edward tells Thomas to ignore them. Thomas's suspicions are right when Max and Monty dump their waste on the rails. This causes Thomas to derail. Luckily, Oliver the Excavator helps clear the tracks. Jerome and Judy help get Thomas back on the tracks. Max and Monty feel sorry for Thomas. Thomas tells them he will not be racing with them anymore.

Connor boasts about being the fastest engine. But one day, he breaks down on Sodor. He goes to the Steamworks for repairs. Connor starts to worry it will happen again if he goes too fast. After that, Connor becomes the slowest engine on the island. Everyone worries Connor will never go fast again. Then Thomas makes Stephen tell about his past experiences with speed and breaking down.

James is asked to take the Mayor of Sodor and the Fat Controller to a party. The party is at Callan Castle. But James has other jobs to do first. With every job, he gets dirtier and dirtier. He finally gets a chance for a washdown. But James is horrified to find a scratch on his paintwork. He goes to the Steamworks to get the scratch painted. However, he leaves before the paint dries. He is upset to find leaves, twigs, and dust stuck to his fresh paint. Edward has to take his place for the party.

One sunny day, the railway tracks buckle and bend. Dowager Hatt gives the Fat Controller a new hat. Everyone calls it a safari hat. The Fat Controller gets tired of being teased and tries to get rid of it. Meanwhile, a piece of glass from Whiff's garbage trucks falls out. It lands on the ground and causes a fire. Belle derails because of the buckled rails. A solution must be found quickly.

Some visitors come to the island to take photos of engines. They visit the Arlesdale Railway and take pictures of the small engines. But Bert is angry that they won't take pictures of him. As they are driving, they spray Bert with mud. Bert wants to get revenge on them. He comes up with a plan.

Duck's driver boils an egg in his whistle. Now the whistle is blocked and makes a funny noise. The engines tease Duck about his whistle. Mike especially says engines without whistles are not proper. Later, Mike pulls passengers on the line. He meets a cow. He blows his whistle so hard that it flies far away into a field. Mike insists they look for his lost whistle. But the passengers decide to whistle for him instead.

Mike is annoyed about always being stuck behind animals. Rex boasts to the small engines about how easy wool deliveries are. The Small Controller gives him the first wool train. Willie the tractor driver accidentally drops his load of wool onto the tracks. This causes Rex to derail.

At the Steamworks, Henry is accidentally given some "glow in the dark" paint. Everyone he meets runs away from him. They think he is a ghost train. The next morning, Gordon and James tease him for being scared all the time, especially of the rain. So Henry comes up with a plan to get them back later that night.

One night, Percy is scared by a strange sound. It comes from under the bridge at the Watermill. Toby is also worried. But Thomas does not believe it is real, until he hears the sound too. Toby and Percy believe it is a troll. They tell the story of three goats who had to cross a bridge with a troll under it. The three engines become terrified of passing the bridge. It is later revealed the sound was only coming from a cow stuck under the bridge.

A rail Zeppelin named Hugo comes to Sodor. At first, everyone is very impressed. However, Stephen worries that they will be replaced by engines like Hugo. This makes the engines worry about their future. They take their anxiety out on Hugo, making him feel unwelcome.

News spreads about an airship that looks like Hugo. Hugo feels he should be able to fly just like it. He gets some encouragement from Skiff. Hugo tries to take off into the sky like an airship on Gordon's Hill. He wants to be like his flying counterpart.

Judy and Jerome are sad because they are never taken out anymore. Rocky is now the official crane of the island. Ryan feels sorry for them. He takes Judy and Jerome out for a change of scenery. He takes them to Arlesburgh Harbour, which they find boring after a while. Duck and Oliver then take them around the island. Eventually, Daisy has an accident. Ryan has to find Judy and Jerome to help.

Skiff hears about a mermaid statue coming to a museum. It is arriving at Arlesburgh Harbour. Skiff believes the mermaid is real. Later, the Fat Controller and his grandchildren want a ride on Skiff. Skiff mistakes a whale's tail in the water for a mermaid. He ends up dragging the Fat Controller out to sea, looking for it. The Fat Controller does not know how to drive Skiff. This results in both of them getting stuck on an island at Bluff's Cove.

Marion hears a voice from behind a tree. She thinks the tree is talking. She tries to tell everyone, but nobody believes her. Thomas becomes curious and investigates. He rediscovers Glynn the Coffeepot Engine. He and Percy worry Glynn will be scrapped. But it turns out he will be restored by the Earl.

Stephen becomes jealous of all the attention Glynn is getting from the Earl. He worries he will become a stationary exhibit at his new railway museum. To decide who will be the exhibit, Stephen challenges Glynn to a race.
