What Did Thomas Amory Write?
Thomas Amory wrote books that covered many different topics. He was like a "jack-of-all-trades" when it came to writing!
In 1755, he published a book called Memoirs containing the lives of several ladies of Great Britain, a History of Antiquities and Observations on the Christian Religion. This book talked about the lives of women, old history, and ideas about religion.
Later, in 1766, he released Life of John Buncle, Esq.. This book was actually a continuation of his earlier work. He published it in two parts: Volume I in 1756 and Volume II later.
His books explored many subjects, including:
- Philology: This is the study of language and words.
- Natural science: This covers topics like plants, animals, and how the world works.
- Theology: This is the study of religious beliefs.
Even though his writings jumped between many different subjects, they often had fresh ideas and were written in a beautiful way.
His Life and Personality
Thomas Amory was known for being a bit unusual, or "eccentric." He had a unique look and acted like a true gentleman.
He also had strong personal beliefs. He rarely went outside during the day. Instead, he preferred to go out when it was getting dark.
Thomas Amory lived a very long life, dying at the age of 97. He likely passed away in London.
