Thomas Archer's Role in the English Civil War

During the English Civil War, Thomas Archer was a Colonel. This meant he was a leader in the army that supported Parliament. The English Civil War was a big fight in England. It was between those who supported the King and those who supported Parliament.

Becoming a Member of Parliament

In 1659, Thomas Archer became a Member of Parliament. He was chosen to represent the town of Warwick. This was for a special meeting of Parliament called the Third Protectorate Parliament. The next year, in April 1660, he was elected again. This time he represented the whole area of Warwickshire. This was for the Convention Parliament.

Thomas Archer's Later Life and Family

Thomas Archer married Anne Lye before 1650. She was the daughter of Richard Lye. Thomas and Anne had five children together. They had three sons and two daughters. Their oldest son was Andrew Archer. Another son, also named Thomas Archer, became a famous architect. Their daughter Elizabeth married Sir Herbert Croft, 1st Baronet. Their daughter Frances married Sir Francis Rouse, 3rd Baronet. Thomas Archer passed away around 1685. He was about 66 years old. He was buried at the Church of St Mary Magdalene, Tanworth-in-Arden on October 25, 1685.
