Thomas Beaufort (born around 1405 – died October 3, 1431) was an English military leader. He was part of the important Beaufort family. Thomas fought for England during the Hundred Years' War against France.

He was the third son of John Beaufort, 1st Earl of Somerset. His mother was Margaret Holland.

Early Military Service

Thomas Beaufort started his military career early. In 1419, he joined King Henry V's campaigns in France. His older brother, Henry Beaufort, 2nd Earl of Somerset, also fought alongside him.

In 1421, Thomas went with the king's younger brother, Thomas of Lancaster. They were fighting in a region called Anjou. During the Battle of Baugé, Thomas of Lancaster was killed. Thomas Beaufort and his other brother, John Beaufort, were captured by the French.

Release and Return to War

Thomas Beaufort was held as a prisoner for several years. He was finally released around 1427. His uncle, Cardinal Beaufort, helped arrange a prisoner exchange to free him.

After his release, Thomas quickly returned to the war. He was a skilled member of the Beaufort family. In December 1427, he was given the title Count of Perche. This title was more of a claim to land in France that England hoped to control. The French Duke John II of Alençon already held the actual title.

Later Campaigns and Death

Thomas Beaufort continued to play an important role in the war. In 1430, he joined King Henry VI's royal coronation trip. For this mission, Thomas led a group of 128 soldiers and 460 archers.

He commanded soldiers in a battle at La Charité-sur-Loire in late 1430. Thomas Beaufort died on October 3, 1431. He was killed during the siege of Louviers in France. This happened just three weeks before the city fell to the English.
