His Art and Famous Works
Gooch was best known for his animal paintings. He also painted the people who owned these horses and dogs. One of his most famous works was a series of six pictures. It was called The Life and Death of a Racehorse.
This series showed the life of a racehorse. It also showed how the horse was treated after its racing career. Gooch finished this work in 1792. It became very popular. People made copies of the pictures using a printing method called aquatint. These prints often came with a text. The text made people think about how animals were treated.
Gooch was a very busy artist. Many rich landowners liked his work. He showed his paintings many times at the Royal Academy. He submitted 76 paintings there during his career.
