Thomas was born in Liverpool, England. He learned to paint from a famous artist named Joshua Reynolds. Thomas showed his artwork in Liverpool for many years. He exhibited his paintings at the Society for Promoting Painting and Design from 1760 to 1818. He also showed his art at the Liverpool Academy between 1810 and 1812.
