Thomas Hemenhale (also known as Thomas Hempnall) was an important church leader from the Middle Ages. He was chosen to be the Bishop of Norwich and later became the Bishop of Worcester. A bishop is a high-ranking leader in the Christian church.

Who Was Thomas Hemenhale?

Thomas Hemenhale lived a long time ago, during the 14th century. He was a significant figure in the Catholic Church in England. His main role was to serve as a bishop, guiding people and managing church affairs in his area.

His Path to Becoming a Bishop

Thomas Hemenhale was first selected for an important role in the church. On April 6, 1336, he was chosen to become the Bishop of Norwich. This meant he was expected to lead the church community in Norwich.

However, before he could officially start his role in Norwich, his plans changed. On March 14, 1337, he was moved to a different position. Instead of Norwich, he was appointed to become the Bishop of Worcester. This happened before he had even been formally made a bishop for Norwich.

Serving as Bishop of Worcester

Thomas Hemenhale officially became the Bishop of Worcester on March 30, 1337. This special ceremony is called a consecration. It means he was formally given the authority and duties of a bishop. He served in this role for a short time. Thomas Hemenhale passed away on December 21, 1338.
