Thomas Hussey (MP for Whitchurch) facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Thomas Hussey (born 1597, died December 1657) was an English politician. He was a member of the House of Commons, which is like a main part of the government in England, at different times between 1645 and 1657. He lived at a place called Hungerford Park.

Thomas Hussey of Hungerford got the right to use Hungerford Park from someone named John Herbert. This means he didn't own it outright but had a long-term agreement to live there.

Becoming a Member of Parliament

In 1645, Thomas Hussey was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for a town called Whitchurch. An MP is a person elected to represent their area in the government. He served in a special group of MPs known as the Long Parliament until 1653. Later, in 1650, he bought some land in a place called Kintbury from Henry Marten. In 1656, he was elected as an MP again, this time for Andover, in another group of MPs called the Second Protectorate Parliament.

His Later Life

Thomas Hussey passed away in 1657. He arranged for his wife, Catherine, to live at Hungerford Park for the rest of her life. After she passed away, the park was to go to their oldest son, also named Thomas Hussey.
